The 2017-2018 OSA Scholarship:
The 2017-2018 OSA Scholarship Recipient was introduced at the September 8 OSA Membership Meeting. Matthew Burton, a full-time senior level student from the University of Cincinnati was awarded the annual $2,500 scholarship award, facilitated by the American Institute of Steel Construction (A.I.S.C.). Burton majors in Civil Engineering and has a keen interest in structural steel with plans to utilize his scholarship to enroll in a Structural Steel Design course during the fall 2017 semester at U.C. Burton is originally from the central Ohio area of Ostrander.
The September 8, 2017 Membership Meeting:
"Angela Richie: Stayin' Alive; Get Your Company Paid!"
Angela Richie, Attorney at Stites & Harbison in Louisville, Kentucky informed the OSA members of the ever current topic of Lien Law and explained how to go about reading contracts prior to signing, as well as what is truly considered a contract. Richie delved into the litigation tactics that the representatives of construction firms use when attempting to avoid paying their sub-contractors. She recommended creating a cheat sheet for employees to refer to when reading and revising contracts before work begins.
